It is with great honor that the staff of NCPreps.com announce the winner of the 2015 Arnold R. Solomon Award for the North Carolina High School Football Player of the Year to quarterback Chazz Surratt of East Lincoln High School selected by NCPreps.com.

Surratt, a 6-2 200-pound senior has been an outstanding student-athlete for the Mustangs. He won the award in 2014 and is the only repeat winner of this award. The standout suffered a football-season injury to his elbow in the second round of the playoffs. Surratt finished the season by completing 208 passes for 289 attempts for 3,536 yards with 51 touchdowns and rushing 134 times for 1,345 yards with 15 touchdowns.

The 2014 season was a record-breaking for Chazz as he smashed school, county, and state records. He broke two state records of most career total yards (16,590) and most career TD responsible for (216) held by former Independence HS and Florida Gator QB Chris Leak. The new records are 16,593 total yards and 229 total touchdowns. Surratt finished his Mustang career with 10,710 passing yards with 136 TDs, 4,713 rushing yards with 78 TDs, and 1,170 receiving yards with 15 TDs.

Surratt has earned local, county, area, state, and national awards including the Gatorade NC Player of the Year, NC AP Player of the Year, and nominee for the National Player of the Year by Parade. He is a 4-star recruit from Rivals.com and has decided to attend the University of North Carolina for football and basketball.

"Chazz Surratt has done a lot in 4 years at East Lincoln. He has been all-conference, all-area, all-state, won 2 state championships, and been MVP of the state championship game in 2014. I remember seeing Chazz play his freshman year in the playoffs. He was a remarkable player then and has grown into a much better player. Chazz is a very smart, humble kid and knows that he couldn't be where he is today without the people around him. He is everything that this award stands for and a great role model for others," stated Deana King, Publisher of NCPreps.com.

The Arnold R. Solomon Award was started in 2010 in honor of Mr. Solomon, who was the founder of NCPreps.com and North Carolina Prep Football News, Inc. Solomon, who resides in Kannapolis is a long-time high school sports historian and was known state-wide for his Fearless Freddie Farkel football predictions. He also started the North Carolina Prep Football News Yearbook, which is the best source of NC high school information around.

"Arnold retired back in 2009 and I wanted to do something to honor him for all his work dealing with the student athletes. This was a no-brainer to name the award after him,"said King.
